PARK HILLS, Mo. – Mineral Area College is gearing up for the 31st Annual Carol Moore Memorial Jazz Festival on Saturday, March 11.

This year’s festival will welcome drumming legend Jeff Hamilton and the Jeff Hamilton Trio as the guest artists.

MAC’s director of jazz, Michael Goldsmith, said “originality” is what versatile drummer Jeff Hamilton brings to the groups with whom he performs. “It’s one of the reasons why he is constantly in demand,” Goldsmith said.

Hamilton has performed with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, Woody Herman, Count Basie Orchestra, Oscar Peterson, Ella Fitzgerald, Mel Torme, Barbara Streisand, Natalie Cole and countless other jazz legends. He is currently touring with his own Trio, the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra and Diana Krall.

The Jeff Hamilton Trio will present a master class at noon and perform in the evening concert along with the Mineral Area College Jazz Ensemble and the Mineral Area College Kicks Band. The concert will begin at 8:30pm on March 11. Reserved tickets are $7 for students and $15 for adults and should be purchased in advance at the Mineral Area College Bookstore, or by calling (573) 518-2106.

The foundation for the community college’s annual jazz festival was based on the hard work and commitment of the late music instructor, Carol Moore. The jazz festival was renamed in her memory after she passed away in 2008.
