MAC ADN Students Graduate in May 12 Exercises

PARK HILLS – Mineral Area College students in the Associate Degree Nursing program graduated in pinning ceremonies held May 12 at the Robert E. Sechrest Sr. Field House on the Park Hills campus.

Lennie Fincher gave the invocation, while the students, along with their family and friends, were welcomed by MAC President Dr. Steve Kurtz. Introduction was given by Vice President Gil Kennon, who is also the dean of the Career & Technical Education Division. He also presided over the ceremonies. Student Nurses Association President Branda Bowles gave her remembrances on the class’s experiences during the duration of the program.

Officers of the graduation class were recognized, and included: President Branda Bowles, Vice President Jacob Emanuel, Delegate Ericka Sumpter; Secretary/Treasurer Megan Hutson; Social Chairperson Emilee Gray; Fundraising Chairperson Amber Thompson; Public Relations Chairpersons Jessica Lawson and Krissie Lashley; Advanced Placement Liaisons Lindsey Bivens and Lynzi Chilton; Historians Gabrielle Williams, Lauren Courtway and Jessica Fraire.

MAC SNA community health projects for the previous year included: Valentines for Veterans; fundraisers for breast cancer awareness and Washington County Community Partnership; blood pressure screenings at Desloge Picnic, Farmington Fall Festival and MAC Homecoming; presented a resolution at the NSNA Convention, “In Support of Nationwide Genomic Competency Education Regarding Personalized Patient Care Across Nursing Specialties.”

Cathy Hutcheson, MSN, RN, was the keynote speaker. Hutcheson earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree from Southeast Missouri State University in 2000, and earned her Master’s Degree in Nursing Education in 2016 from Central Methodist University. After working in telemetry, wound care and correctional nursing, she began her teaching career in the Program in Practical Nursing for the Sikeston Public School system, where she worked for five years. She also taught two years of Associate Degree Nursing at Three Rivers Community College in Poplar Bluff. She began teaching at Mineral Area College in 2007 in the Program in Practical Nursing and is currently teaching freshmen in the Associate Degree Nursing Program at Mineral Area College.
