(PARK HILLS) – Thanks to a partnership agreement with the board and administration of the Ste. Genevieve School District, Mineral Area College is branching out by offering four classes at the city’s high school this fall. The semester begins Aug. 21 and ends Dec. 15, and the classes are open to the community at large.

The classes are:

? Intermediate Algebra, Mondays, 3:30-6:10 pm;
? Intro Computers, Mondays, 6:30-9:10 pm;
? American Political Systems, Wednesdays, 3:30-6:10 pm;
? Gen. Psychology, Wednesdays, 6:30-9:10 pm.

MAC’s dean of the Arts & Sciences Division, Dr. Diana Stuart, said the four classes are hopefully just the beginning.

“MAC is excited to be partnering with the Ste. Genevieve school district to offer more educational opportunities in the community,” she said. “We are starting with a few basic classes that are a part of the general education component for most degree plans. We hope to be able to offer additional courses in the future.”

Mary Bauwens, director of MAC’s outreach center in Perryville, is coordinating the effort in Ste. Genevieve. She said the process of enrolling in the classes is like enrolling in any other class at MAC. “Much of it can be done online at our website, www.MineralArea.edu,” she said. “You are also welcome to make an appointment with her and she will help you with the admissions process.”

Even Ste. Genevieve students who are currently enrolled in these classes at the Perryville or Park Hills campus, and who are commuting, will be able to switch these courses to the Ste. Genevieve location, she said.

“In this day and age, it’s become more and more crucial to advance one’s training and education to perform in the job market,” Bauwens said. “Of course, embracing a lifetime of education has also been shown to increase cognitive function well into one’s years, as well. The beauty of these classes is that there’s no age limit on who can take them, and there’s no limit as to the incentives to take these classes, either.”
