Welcome to Career Services

The Career Services Office is here to help! We have resources to help you gain a better understanding of your interests, abilities, and career values. We can help you gather information on job descriptions, earnings, employment trends, job outlook, training/education required, and more. 

Our services are available to anyone, college student or community member, who is undecided about a college major or career; recently lost a job and looking for a new career; need help with college transfer information; resume writing and interviewing skills; or just need help with the career planning process.

Whether a first career or career change, the career planning process can be an exciting way to discover your ideal career!

  • Career Advising: Speak with a Career Advisor who is well prepared and equipped with the necessary tools and resources to assist you with all your career, academic, and college transfer needs
  • Career Planning course - GUI 1960 (1 credit hour).  Designed to guide you through the career decision-making process

Mineral Area College offers courses to assist students in the career decision making and job search process.

Most students need guidance in making an educated career decision. The Career Planning Office focuses on the career planning process and is dedicated to helping individuals identify their educational and career goals and develop a plan to reach those goals. 

 

  • Prep for Employment – PAW1060 (1 credit hour)

    A course designed to teach students skills essential to the development of a sound job seeking strategy.  The class requires the students to prepare a resume, cover letter, follow-up, and application blank, as well as practice interviewing techniques and learn tips to improve their chances of being successfully employed.

  • Career Planning Course – GUI1960 (1 credit hour)

    Designed to guide you through the career decision-making process.

  • First Year Seminar – GUI1010 (1 credit hour)

    Required of all freshmen pursuing a degree. Orients students to college life to make success in college achievable. Designed to increase awareness of resources on campus, teach behavioral expectations of college, and teach skills for academic success, such as note-taking, test-taking, study skills, time management, decision making, and goal setting.

A federal work program administered by MAC offers students the opportunity to be employed on campus. The award received by the student is based on financial need. Students earn $12.30 per hour beginning January 1, 2024, which is paid on a monthly basis. Various positions are offered to students to complement their education with practical job experience.

The Work-Study Application is located in MyMAC. Log in to your MyMAC portal. Under the My Financial Aid Tab, scroll down to the Work-Study Information link on the left side. Open the link and complete the Work-Study Application.

The Financial Aid office will determine if you're eligible for the program. Please be aware that additional financial aid such as student loans, scholarships, Voc-Rehab, WIOA, etc., may affect your Work-Study eligibility.

Watch your MAC email for program eligibility notification from the Financial Aid office.
