James Whaley
Automotive Technology Instructor

James comes to MAC with 35 years of professional automotive mechanic experience. He achieved his first Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) credentials while serving in the Army and has held ASE Master Auto Technician certification for over 20 years.

Following his military service, James worked for General Motors as a journeyman technician until opening his own business, J and M Auto, in 2010. As a business owner, he found that training new technicians was one of the most rewarding parts of the job and had planned on retiring and closing the shop in 2029 so he could focus on training new mechanics.

His plans were accelerated when he accepted the position at Mineral Area College. James decided to sell the business to focus on establishing the automotive technology program here at MAC and is looking forward to helping develop it into one of the best nationwide!
