Jazz Festival

37th Mike O'Brien and Carol Moore Memorial Jazz Festival

Spend the day on the Mineral Area College campus performing and learning with highly respected jazz educators and clinicians.

This festival is open to middle school/junior high and high school ensembles, vocal and instrumental. The format of the festival is “comments only”; however, judges will select the best band in each festival site each day. Judges will also select individuals to receive outstanding musician awards. Bands will have a performance and will immediately receive a clinic after. Entry fees are $200 per first ensemble and $150 for each additional ensemble. The festival is sponsored by the Mineral Area Fine Arts Academy (MAFAA), a not-for-profit organization.  

This year, we are excited to welcome trumpeter supreme, Allen Vizzutti! Allen and an all-star combo will be presenting a master class around noon on Friday, March 15 and Saturday, March 16 at Mineral Area College. In addition to the master class, Allen is providing a round table with band directors/music educators. This will take place on Thursday evening at Mineral Area College.

You can also catch Allen performing with the Mineral Area Kicks Band and the MAFAA Jazz Ensemble on Saturday, March 16 in the MAC Fine Arts Theater. Tickets are $15 at the door.

Festival performances by local schools are free and open to the public.

Join us at Twin Oaks Winery for a special evening with trumpeter supreme Allen Vizzutti and All-Star Guest Combo on Friday, March 15 at 7pm.

This intimate evening will be held in the Grand Oaks room at Twin Oaks and is sure to be a night to remember. General admission tickets are $25. Appetizer bars, tea, and lemonade are included in your ticket. Cash bar will also be available.
