PTK Lambda Chapter attends the Heartland Region Convention
Mineral Area College’s Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Lambda Chapter attended the PTK Heartland Region Convention February 28 - March 1 at Metropolitan Community College in Nebraska.

Saunders Named Regional Officer
For the first time in over a decade, the Lambda Chapter has a regional officer. Carly Saunders was chosen as the Heartland Region Vice President of Service for the coming year. In the role, she will lead and attend conferences, speak at induction ceremonies, and contribute to regional service projects.
Carly is also the current president of the Lambda Chapter. She said when the opportunity to serve on the regional level was presented at the spring conference, she realized that she could use the skills developed through PTK to make a difference beyond MAC.
“I am very honored and grateful for this opportunity,” Saunders said. “I hope to create an honors and action project that will help make a difference in the Heartland Region communities by collaborating with my team and the local chapters.”
Sample Earns Awards
MAC sophomore student Alyssa Sample was recognized for completing the PTK Competitive Edge and Healthcare Edge Programs. This online, self-paced curriculum enhances critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and professionalism, ensuring that students are well-prepared for their careers and leadership roles.
Chapter Awards
The chapter itself was also honored with a couple of awards, they received 5 out of 5 stars in the Five-Star Chapter Development Program. This program encourages excellence and recognizes progress in attaining the chapter’s goals.
They also earned 2nd place in the Most Improved Chapter category. This award recognizes chapters that completed an essay regarding obstacles they overcame and addressed improvements from last year.
About PTK at MAC
PTK is the international scholastic honor society for community college students. The Lambda Chapter is currently recruiting new members for the spring semester. The group meets the first Wednesday of the month at 2:00 p.m. in the Cardinal Student Lounge and has a Zoom option.
