Williams Honored with Distinguished Service Award
Dr. Gilgour presents the N. Gayle and Rowena Simmons Distinguished Service Award to Bruce Williams at the 2026 Commencement Ceremony
The N. Gayle and Rowena Simmons Distinguished Service Award, one of Mineral Area College’s most prestigious honors, recognizes individuals who embody outstanding community service and maintain a significant connection to the college. At this year's Commencement Ceremony, Mineral Area College was pleased to honor Bruce Williams with the award.
Bruce was chosen for this award due to his unwavering support for the growth of MAC Tech programs. He played a critical role in the development of the Industry and Technology Center, providing expert guidance to ensure the facility was designed as a space that replicates real-world industrial environments. This commitment ensures students train in an atmosphere that mirrors where they will work after graduation.
A native of Bonne Terre and a Georgia Tech alumnus, Bruce returned home in 1973 to join the family business, US Tool Grinding. Under his 50-plus years of visionary leadership, the company evolved into US Tool Group.
What began as a local operation with 20 employees has transformed into a global powerhouse with over 130 locations and 1,000 employees. Today, the Farmington-based headquarters oversees the processing of over one million cutting tools monthly, supplying nearly $500 million in materials annually to the aerospace industry.
US Tool Group is now the largest cutting tool reconditioning company in the world and a major supplier to the aerospace industry, supporting customers like Boeing, SpaceX, and Gulfstream. The work done through US Tool helps build some of the most advanced aircraft in the world, including the F-35 Fighter Jet, the B-21 Stealth Bomber, and the recently recognized B2 Bomber.
Bruce is widely known for his innovative approach to designing specialized equipment, tools, and manufacturing processes—helping position the company as a global leader while continuing to invest right here in our local community.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Bruce is deeply committed to the Parkland region. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Mineral Area College Foundation and the Farmington Industrial Development Authority, and he has long supported organizations like the Presbyterian Home for Children. He is also a strong advocate for education, supporting local school districts, technical training programs, and partnerships like UniTec and MAC Tech to help develop the next generation of skilled workers.
When he isn’t shaping the future of manufacturing, Bruce enjoys flying aerobatics in his bright yellow Decathlon airplane. He and his wife, Bonnie, also enjoy spending time on their boat, staying active, and enjoying time with family and friends. Bruce is especially proud to be working alongside his son, Brent, who serves as President of US Tool Group, continuing the family legacy into its third generation.
